Equipment

I won't go into detail about every little wrench or gadget.  Just the main stuff.

Luggage:
  • I'm using Givi N3600 side cases.  Not the coolest panniers but they have never let me down. Even in days of pouring rain, I've never had so much as a drop inside.  Same goes for dust.  Because of this, I've decided to keep them on. I'm sure in the event of a tip over or crash they won't fair very well but, knock on wood, I haven't proven that yet.
  • Pelican 1450 top case.  Love it.  All my personal information is in that case.  In the unlikely event of a catastrophic crash and nothings left, this case is like my "black box".  I also keep my camera in it.
  • Wolfman tank bag. Popular product.  Not crazy about the wear and tear on my gas tank due to the straps but, nevertheless, its well thought-out.  Next bike I'll look into those "Quick-Lock" tankring bags.
  • The North Face dry bag.  This was a good choice.  I pack my sleeping bag, sleeping pad and pillow in it.  Although not totally water or dust proof, it's done well.  It also has all sorts of loops and straps to fasten stuff on to.
Sleeping Stuff:
Tent:
  • Sierra Designs Electron RC 2.  This is a 2 person tent with access on both sides.  The vestibule is large enough to stow my luggage and boots.  I think this is a good tent.  It hasn't leaked or ripped.  The zippers are good quality.  Advise:  Spend the money and get the best tent you can afford.
GPS:  Garmin Zumo 450.

Apres Riding:
Kermit Chair. After a long days ride, sitting at a hard picnic table just doesn't cut it.  This chair will provide a perfect companion while enjoying a cold one to cut the dust.

Photography:
Nikon D5100 with only 1 lens; a Nikkor 18-105mm.  I travelled up to the Yukon and down through the States with this camera.  I like the size and as DSLR's go, it's quite light.  I did have a problem with the lens and had to send it back to Nikon.  I suspect the pounding it took on the way up north had something to do with it. I carry 2 cameras with me.

I'll also use my cell phone camera, a Nexus 4.  This will be my first attempt at using a cell phone to document a trip.

  1. Love the fact you have a comfy looking chair with you - you have to show us how it folds and unfolds.
